The Landlady is a brilliant gem of a short story from Roald Dahl, the master of the sting in the tail.In The Landlady, Roald Dahl, one of the world's favourite authors, tells a sinister story about the darker side of human nature. Here, a young man in need of room meets a most accommodating landlady...
The Landlady is taken from the short story collection Kiss Kiss, which includes ten other devious and shocking stories, featuring the wife who pawns the mink coat from her lover with unexpected results; the priceless piece of furniture that is the subject of a deceitful bargain; a wronged woman taking revenge on her dead husband, and others.

This Roald Dahl short story was again really good! He manages to make it super creepy but in a very subtle way. The ending is left open (a bit too open for my taste), but it lets your imagination run wild on what happened to Mr Weaver.Well, you may have guessed, I'm selectively reading a book of short stories by various authors. I thought I'd have a little sip of Roald Dahl. Believe it or not, this is my first ever ...anything... by R. Dahl. A story about a B&B with a strange landlady: okay, that bit's interesting. Her previous guests were few and far between, and - gone missing! Crap ending means I took off two stars. In fact... if you're considering reading a Roald Dahl, find another of his books, because his writing
It's only okay not the usual Dahl book
Dame Agatha Christie and Her Peers BOOK/Short 5This Edgar winning short story feels much like the book "Psycho" but with a female psychopath: Dahl even brings up the name "Mr. Perkins" as, apparently, the homage to the Hitchcock film starring Tony Perkins. Why, we even have a stuffed animal or two. I like that Dahl takes that story and makes it a bit wittier than even Hitchcock's very dark "comedy", as Hitchcock himself called his film. Be prepared for a surprise if you've only read Dahl's
3.5 StarsDue to being quite behind on my reviews for the texts that I have finished, I am only offering star ratings for the handful of short stories that I have most recently read. I know, it hurts me too.P.S. I am SUCH a Roald Dahl fan!
Very clever-written story. The author, Roald Dahl, foreshadows the events that will happen later, giving readers much thrill. At the end, Billy drinks the tea, with a bitter almond flavor. (Did you know, Cynaide is a poison that tastes and smells like bitter almonds?)The ending makes the reader curious. Very curious. It also gets the reader thinking, 'Did the landlady poison Billy? And other two?' 5-star worth story. Loved it!
The story reminds me of the goosebumps book series you need to expect the unexpected.I wouldn't read the story again.
