Splendid is the first book ever written by JQ. You can see its her debut novel as some passages are a bit lengthy and lacking in plot/meaning. But her characters are, as usual, witty and funny. I am a fan of Julia Quinn's later books, at this one definitely shows a lot of her potential, but sadly falls far short. I enjoyed the cast of characters, and found the plot compelling enough to keep reading, but sadly both of those elements kind of careened off the rails toward the end, leaving a bit of a jumbled mess.
