Not the most known of Meša Selimović's fiction but actually a very good place to start with his work, especially if interested in his views of Yugoslavian politics and history. It's useful in reading this to know he studiedand later taught and did considerable research onSerbo-Croat philology and linguistics, too.Another psychological WWII tale by Selimović. I must admit I found this book hard going, but it held me nonetheless with its unique approach to wartime drama. A household is attempting to carry on as far as possible as normal in wartime, with different armed factions coming and going across their land. The different members of the household (which for a time include a wounded Partisan) have different views on what the war means, and how to cope with it, such that the real focus of the book is

Osećam potrebu da napišem utisak, ali rasuta sam u paramparčad kao i uvek kad se čita Meša.
