I found out she wrote a book while watching a Starkid Q&A. Not sure if she can write, but it's worth a try :)Like most, I read A Glamorously Unglamorous Life for Julia. AVPM & co. defined a period of my college years, and I've been a fan of StarKid Productions ever since. So when Julia released this book, I entirely meant to read it... I'm just a few years late lol. And as such, I'm sure my perspective is a little skewed. At 20, this would've been a magnificent introduction into the isolating reality of adulthood. I would've identified entirely too much with the struggles of self-pitying Julia and
loved the simplicity of this story.
When people talk about the city, it's usually all about the glamorous side of it. Everything is better in new york. It's THE best place to live. Julia pokes that perfect bubble and reveals the struggles and the hardship. It's full of wonderful advice and quotes. Such inspiration in less than 150 pages. If you liked this book, check out glow*!
I read this right before my first year of college and it definitely settled with me. Julia's journey on her own in New York City without parents or family really inspired me and taught me valuable lessons about homesicknesses and becoming independent. It's a short read, but it manages to resonate deeply regardless of length. I've written down several quotes from the book to keep with me when I start doubting my ability to live on my own.
She could've definitely used an editor, but Julia's story is one of the most reassuring stories for a college student or recent graduate to read. It's about her first year out of college and her journey that didn't quite go as planned. It's full of her trademark optimism and warmth, and was exactly what this college student needed to read at the time.
It was an amazing and inspiring book. Well done, Julia :)
